Please note as from the 21 April 2015 due to the high demand for our service we will normally only accept self referrals from clients.
The Birchall Trust was founded in 1991 and is a registered charity providing a free confidential counselling service for male and females, children, young people and adult survivors of recent or historic rape and sexual abuse in South Cumbria and North Lancashire.
The service is also available for partners, relatives and friends who want to talk about the effects of rape and sexual abuse in order to support their loved one.
We offer the following services:-
- Pre-Trial Therapy.
- One to one counselling sessions.
- Consultation to professionals working with survivors of rape and sexual abuse.
- Bespoke training to professionals working with survivors of rape and sexual abuse.
- Protective Behaviours “Feeling safe, standing strong” programme.
Our counsellors are specially trained to understand the issues and the impact of rape and sexual abuse and hold an enhanced DBS certificate.
We have both male and female counsellors and our clients are able to state their preference.
It is essential that our counsellors have on-going training and supervision and are a member of a registered organisational body e.g BACP.
Our counselling rooms are situated in Barrow, Kendal, Lancaster and Morecambe.
We can only offer counselling sessions Monday – Friday 9am-5pm.
Counselling sessions are for one hour a week with the same counsellor and they are normally at the same day and time each week.
Unfortunately there is a waiting list and we are unable to predict when a counsellor will become available but we will allocate a counsellor as soon as we possibly can.
Referrals can be made to the office by telephoning 01229 820828 or emailing email@example.com
For adults we prefer self-referrals and for children/young people a parent/guardian can self-refer and agencies can contact us for our referral form.
The office staff are here to help and support you. Your calls and emails will be treated with the utmost confidence and respect.
The service is provided free of charge and relies on funding grants and donations.
